  • Trip Detail at-a-Glance

  • Challenging

Obviously we hope to fulfill our objectives but realistically we can only guarantee start and finish times with these treks. The treks are limited to those with an excellent level of personal experience and fitness and a sense of humor, with high tolerance levels. During the trek you may have to cross snow-covered passes in very remote areas and/or climb up to 6,000m in altitude. All our peak climbing and expeditions fall under this section.

After exploring the temples, shrines, bazaars and restaurants of Kathmandu we take an exciting mountain flight to Lukla and trek up the Dudh Kosi Valley, surrounded by the soaring peaks of Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru. It’s a steep ascent to Namche Bazaar, capital of the Kumbu Sherpas, where we are again greeted by spectacular mountain vistas. A rest day here aids acclimatization and there are great optional walks to enjoy the area. We then trek into Gokyo Valley and ascend gradually, to ensure proper acclimatization, walking beside the moraines of Ngozumpa Glacier and turquoise lakes to reach Gokyo. From here we can climb Gokyo Ri to view of all of the region’s 8,000m peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu – a breathtaking panorama. Our trek then heads via Cho La Pass (5,300m) to Lobuche, where we follow Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep. From here we ascend KalaPatthar (5,555m) where we experience another breathtaking panorama of Everest and her surrounding peaks. We also visit the historical site of Everest Base Camp. Now well acclimatized, we cross Kongma La (5,535meters) to Chukkung, to make our attempt on Island Peak. Though technically harder than Mera Peak, this expedition is also well within the reach of anyone seeking their first Himalayan summit.

If you are looking for shorter trip to Island Peak then our 21 days Everest Base Camp and Island Peak or only 17 days Island Peak Adventure is option for you.

After summiting Island Peak, we return at our leisurely pace back to Namche and Lukla for our return flight to Kathmandu.

Flight Delay in Kathmandu and Lukla

Twin Otter is the primary mode of transport to and from the airstrip at Lukla. This service is fairly dependable. Sometimes, flights (to and from Lukla) may be cancelled due to mountain weather conditions or technical problems. In such case, Ace the Himalaya will charter a helicopter to ensure you are on schedule for your international flight. The helicopter can fly if the visibility is 1500m, while the twin otter can fly if the visibility is 5000m, as per Nepal’s Civil Aviation rules.

The cost of the helicopter is payable directly to our Kathmandu office in the event that this service is utilized. US cash, traveler's cheques, or credit cards (Visa Cards, Master Cards only) are accepted. You will be given a receipt upon payment so that you may claim the amount from your travel insurance. The minimum cost will be US$500 and maximum US$3500 depending on the number of group members.

What makes this trip different ?

Ace the Himalaya works closely with and is one of the main supporters of Sambhav Nepal Foundation, a non-political and non-profit social organization. We contribute our support to the remote village of Arupokhari (Gorkha, Nepal) through donation, sponsorship and partnership in various projects.

Donation
Ace the Himalaya donates a percentage of business profits to the foundation on a yearly basis, which supports the ongoing maintenance cost required for Bhairabi Primary school, a community-based school in Arupokhari (plus few other schools in the region).

Sponsorship
One of the major activities of Sambhav Nepal is the children sponsorship program, which is conducted with full collaboration with Ace the Himalaya.

Partnership (Volunteering Program)
The Arupokhari Volunteer Program, devised by Ace the Himalaya and Sambhav Nepal, aims to mobilize teams of experts and interested individuals as an effective and economic measure in providing the human capital for education, health and community development in  Arupokhari village of Gorkha district, western Nepal.
